Oman’s National Awareness Campaign for Early Breast Cancer Detection
The Ministry of Health, represented by the National Center for Women’s and Children’s Health, has launched a national awareness campaign for early breast cancer detection named “Rest Assured,” coinciding with World Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October. The campaign will run for one year across various provinces of Oman, focusing on promoting preventive health measures among women.
Dr. Faiza bint Abdul Hussein Al-Fadhil, Director of the Women’s Health Department at the National Center, presented an overview of the evolution of the breast cancer early detection program in Oman during the launch event.
Details of the Campaign
The launch event highlighted key milestones in the development of the early detection program and included a human dialogue surrounding recovery experiences and messages of hope. The official launch of the campaign was marked by discussions on its objectives, targeted demographics, and its execution strategies throughout the year.
Dr. Badriya Al-Qasabi, Head of the Early Detection of Women’s Health-Related Issues Department, provided insights into the details of the awareness campaign. Additionally, Mona Al-Shuqaili, a health educator at the center, presented the campaign’s educational materials.
The Importance of Early Detection
The program emphasizes the critical need for early detection, as breast cancer represents a significant health challenge for women. Early identification of changes can vastly improve treatment outcomes and access to timely care. During the awareness event, Dr. Nabilah Al-Wahaibi, a Senior Consultant in Family and Community Medicine, discussed the evaluation framework for the campaign across different provinces.
Moreover, a personal experience was shared by Hafitha Al-Amri, who discussed her journey with breast cancer in a session titled “When Hope Triumphs.” This narrative aimed to encourage other women to seek screenings and recognize the importance of early intervention.
Objectives of the “Rest Assured” Campaign
The “Rest Assured” campaign aims to foster sustainable health awareness by correcting misconceptions about breast cancer while empowering women to recognize concerning signs that require medical evaluation. This initiative encourages women to proactively seek early detection services based on age guidelines set forth by the national program.
Over the year, the campaign will engage communities through diverse educational programs, initiatives, and events in collaboration with various sectors, ensuring health awareness translates into sustainable health behavior. The campaign also reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing breast cancer screening services in line with the national vision of Oman 2040 and the 11th Five-Year Plan (2026–2030).
Future Directions in Women’s Health
The health of women has received a high level of attention from Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, highlighting the national commitment to improving women’s health services. As part of this initiative, the Cabinet has endorsed a national program for early cancer screening in women, which will establish seven early detection units throughout Oman. This strategic step demonstrates a dedication to broadening access to preventive health services.
In conclusion, as breast cancer continues to pose a substantial health risk, the “Rest Assured” campaign offers a timely reminder of the significance of awareness and early intervention. Moving forward, stakeholders are encouraged to actively participate in supporting women’s health initiatives and fostering a culture of preventive care throughout Oman.
