Doha, Qatar – The stage is set for a captivating final in the FIFA Arab Cup as Jordan prepares to face Morocco at the iconic Lusail Stadium tonight. Both teams, already qualified for the FIFA World Cup, are vying for the prestigious Arab Cup title, promising a thrilling showdown between a potent attack and a formidable defense. The match kicks off at 7pm local time.

This contest pits two of the region’s strongest national teams against each other, both with recent positive experiences in major tournaments. Morocco reached the semi-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, a historic achievement for the nation, while Jordan impressed in the 2023 AFC Asian Cup, ultimately finishing as runners-up.

Jordan Aiming for Arab Cup Glory After Strong Tournament Run

Jordan has emerged as the tournament’s leading goal-scorers with 10 goals in five matches, showcasing their attacking prowess. However, they face a significant challenge in overcoming a resilient Moroccan side. Despite a setback with a knee injury to key forward Yazan Al Naimat, who underwent surgery, Jordan demonstrated their ability to win even without their star player, defeating Saudi Arabia 1-0 in the semi-finals.

Ali Olwan, the tournament’s top scorer with four goals, will be crucial for Jordan’s attack. He’ll need to find ways to break through Morocco’s solid defensive line, anchored by goalkeeper El Mehdi Benabid and defenders Soufiane Bouftini and Marwane Saadane. Jordan’s coach, Jamal Sellami, believes the team has the potential to make history for Jordanian football.

Morocco’s Defensive Strength

In stark contrast to Jordan’s attacking focus, Morocco has built their success on a staunch defense, having conceded only one goal throughout the competition – an own goal in their opening match against Comoros. This defensive solidity will be a key factor as they look to stifle Jordan’s forward line and control the tempo of the match.

Morocco comfortably advanced to the final with a convincing 3-0 victory over the United Arab Emirates. Coach Tariq Sektioui expressed his team’s confidence, stating their morale is high and they are focused on securing the title for Moroccan fans. He also acknowledged the strength of their opponents, highlighting Jordan’s experienced team and capable coach.

Defender Marouane El Ouadni echoed Sektioui’s sentiments, emphasizing the players’ commitment and readiness to face the challenge. He acknowledged the respect for Jordan, but affirmed their determination to be crowned champions.

Sellami, himself a Moroccan national, noted the unique circumstance of two Moroccan coaches leading their respective teams in the final. He underscored that winning the Arab Cup would be a major milestone for the future of Jordanian football. Saed Al Rosan, a center-back, expressed optimism, citing the team’s strong defensive record and positive experiences in Qatar.

The presence of several key Moroccan players at the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations on home soil means the team also isn’t at full strength, adding a layer of complexity to the match. This situation presents an opportunity for other players to step up and prove their worth on the international stage. The Arab Cup serves as valuable preparation for both teams as they continue their journeys toward further international success.

Following the final, both teams will turn their attention to upcoming qualifying matches for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The outcome of this match, while a prestigious achievement in itself, could also provide a psychological advantage as they navigate the challenges of World Cup qualification. The performance of key players and tactical adjustments will be closely watched in future competitions.
