The global digital creative economy is currently valued at Dh27 trillion, presenting a significant opportunity for growth driven by emerging talent and advancements in disruptive technologies. A white paper titled Digital Creative Economy 2024, developed by Dubai Design District (d3) and Dubai Media City in collaboration with Monstarlab, highlights the potential of this sector. The study, which involved input from industry leaders and survey responses from 400 design and media professionals, predicts the industry’s exponential growth at 11% annually, reaching a valuation of Dh27 trillion by 2030.

Dubai has solidified its position as a hub for the creative economy, ranking first on the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Index for project inflows and job opportunities in the cultural and creative industries in 2023. Majed Al Suwaidi, senior vice president of Dubai Media City, emphasizes the need for talent equipped with the skills to leverage technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), Web3, and virtual reality. The study underscores the importance of strategic support to nurture the next generation of creative innovators and capitalize on the evolving landscape of digital media.

Khadija Al Bastaki, senior vice president of Dubai Design District (d3), asserts that the creative industries serve as a driver for economic growth and are a key focus for Dubai’s Creative Economy Strategy. The white paper aims to foster a dialogue among stakeholders to shape a progressive future for creative professionals in the region. The study also highlights the UAE’s role in contributing to the global creative industry and its position as a fast-growing and digitizing market within the GCC.

Dubai’s initiatives, such as Dubai Fashion Week and the establishment of regulatory authorities like the Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority, demonstrate the city’s commitment to fostering creativity and innovation. Comparing Dubai to global design and media capitals, the white paper identifies key factors contributing to Dubai’s success in nurturing the digital creative economy, including talent development, government support, innovation, and infrastructure. This positions Dubai as a global player in the creative industry landscape and highlights opportunities for continued growth and excellence.
