The Embassy of Japan in the Sultanate of Oman recently hosted a reception in celebration of the commencement of the “Ryoma Manga Seminar” in Sur, known as the Arab Tourism Capital for 2024. The event, which took place at the Sur Grand Hotel on the 1st of September, was attended by H.E. Yousef bin Salem bin Nasser Al-Mukhaini, Member of the Shura Council representing the Wilayat of Sur.

During the event, H.E. Jota YAMAMOTO, Ambassador of Japan to the Sultanate of Oman, emphasized the important role that manga plays in strengthening the friendship between Japan and Oman. He expressed his hopes that seminar participants would serve as ambassadors of Japanese manga and further enhance cultural ties between the two countries.

Following the reception, the manga seminar organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth began at the Youth Center in Wilayat of Sur. Japanese manga artists Mr. Yoshihiro IWAGAMI and Ms. Yuka YAMASHITA, who were invited from Kochi Prefecture, Japan, are providing lectures to participants on the art of manga creation. This seminar is a unique opportunity for aspiring manga artists in Oman to learn from experienced professionals in the field.

The hosting of the Ryoma Manga Seminar in Sur, the Arab Tourism Capital for 2024, highlights the growing interest in Japanese culture and manga in Oman. This event serves as a platform for cultural exchange and collaboration between Japan and Oman, fostering greater understanding and appreciation of each other’s traditions and art forms. The presence of esteemed guests at the reception underscores the importance of strengthening diplomatic and cultural ties through initiatives such as this manga seminar.

The participation of artists from Japan in the seminar further enhances the learning experience for participants in Sur. Mr. Iwagami and Ms. Yamashita bring with them a wealth of knowledge and expertise in manga creation, providing invaluable insights and guidance to local artists. Their presence not only adds credibility to the seminar but also showcases the global appeal and influence of Japanese manga on the international stage.

Overall, the Ryoma Manga Seminar in Sur represents a significant step towards promoting cultural exchange and mutual understanding between Japan and Oman. Through initiatives like this, both countries can continue to build bridges and foster strong bonds based on shared interests and respect for each other’s cultural heritage. The success of this seminar will pave the way for future collaborations and partnerships in the arts, further enriching the cultural landscape of both nations.
