The Sports Boulevard Foundation has been honored with the prestigious King Salman Charter for Architecture and Urbanism Award, recognizing the project’s excellence in adhering to the principles and standards of the Charter. The Foundation was chosen for its unique design principles, commitment to balancing authenticity and modernity, and showcasing innovative urban outputs. The award celebrates projects that embody the values of the Charter. Dr. Sumayah Al-Sulaiman, CEO of Architecture and Design Commission, presented the award at the King Abdulaziz International Conference Center in Riyadh to Jayne McGivern, CEO of Sports Boulevard Foundation. McGivern expressed her pride in receiving the award and emphasized the project’s achievement through its design and application of local identity.

The Sports Boulevard project, designed to revolutionize urban planning in Riyadh, spans over 135 kilometers and includes more than 4.4 million square meters of green and open spaces. The project also includes up to 50 multi-disciplinary sports facilities with integrated infrastructure, gaining the trust of a committee of 30 local and international architecture and design experts. In 2022, the Foundation launched the design code for all buildings on Prince Mohammed bin Salman Road, emphasizing the importance of local identity and Salmani architecture to create a modern and sustainable environment that enhances the quality of life for residents.

The Sports Boulevard is a mega project in Riyadh launched by King Salman in 2019 and chaired by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The project aims to improve the quality of life for the city’s residents and visitors by providing integrated infrastructure, pedestrian pathways, cycling pathways, horse-riding trails, and more. The project showcases a commitment to blending traditional architectural elements with modern design principles, creating a unique and innovative urban environment. The focus on sustainability and local identity sets the Sports Boulevard apart as a model for future urban development projects in the region.

Winning the King Salman Charter for Architecture and Urbanism Award highlights the dedication of the Sports Boulevard Foundation to excellence in design and urban planning. By incorporating local identity and sustainable design principles into the project, the Foundation has created a space that reflects the vision of King Salman and enhances the urban landscape of Riyadh. The recognition of the Foundation’s efforts by the Architecture and Design Commission reinforces the importance of preserving cultural heritage while embracing modernity in urban development projects.

The success of the Sports Boulevard project in winning the prestigious award underscores its impact on the architectural and design community in Saudi Arabia and beyond. The project serves as a testament to the power of collaborative efforts between local and international design experts in creating innovative and sustainable urban spaces. The commitment of the Foundation to upholding the values of the King Salman Charter for Architecture and Urbanism sets a high standard for future development projects in the region, inspiring others to prioritize authenticity, innovation, and sustainability in their designs.

Overall, the Sports Boulevard project stands as a symbol of progress and innovation in urban planning, showcasing the potential of combining traditional architectural elements with modern design principles. The project’s recognition through the King Salman Charter for Architecture and Urbanism Award serves as a testament to the Foundation’s dedication to creating a unique and sustainable urban environment that reflects the cultural heritage of Saudi Arabia while embracing modernity. As the project continues to evolve and expand, it is poised to set a new standard for urban development in Riyadh and inspire future projects in the region and beyond.
