Qatar’s football team has achieved its highest-ever FIFA ranking, moving up to the 34th spot in the latest rankings. This rise comes after a successful year under coach Marquez Lopez, with the team winning their second consecutive Asian Cup title and finishing the second round of FIFA World Cup 2026 – AFC Asian Qualifiers undefeated.

The reigning Asian champions are now aiming for direct qualification to the next World Cup, which will be hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States. However, the team faces a tough challenge in Group A, which includes strong opponents like Iran, Uzbekistan, and the United Arab Emirates. The qualifiers will determine which Asian teams secure direct qualification for the World Cup.

Qatar topped their group in the second round of qualifiers and will face off against the UAE in their opening third-round match on September 5. The qualifiers will continue until June 10, 2025, as the team strives to make their first appearance at the FIFA World Cup.

The latest FIFA rankings reflect the intense international calendar, with 125 matches taking place worldwide. Copa America champions Argentina maintained their top position, while France and Spain also retained high rankings after successful performances in the Euro and Copa America tournaments.

In the top 50 rankings, Turkiye and Venezuela made significant progress, moving up to 26th and 37th place, respectively. Additionally, New Zealand returned to the top 100 after a seven-year absence, jumping 13 places to 94th.

Qatar’s football team’s rise in the rankings demonstrates their growing success on the international stage. With a strong squad and a talented coach, the team is determined to secure a spot in the next FIFA World Cup and continue their impressive performance in regional and international competitions.

Their unbeaten record in the previous qualifiers and their upcoming matches against tough opponents like the UAE show the team’s resilience and determination to achieve their goals. With the support of their fans and the guidance of their coach, Qatar’s football team is on the right track to make history in the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
