Doha, Qatar’s representation at the fourth Annual Sustainable Goals Banquet in New York City was a grand success. The event, organized by Fashion 4 Development, brought together heads of state, dignitaries, and influencers to discuss sustainability and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. This year’s focus was on the Qatar-Morocco 2024 Year of Culture, highlighting the rich cultural heritage of both nations and their contributions to global education and social development efforts. The banquet served as a platform for international collaborations on sustainability, cultural exchange, and the role of education in achieving the SDGs.

A standout moment of the evening was the Weaving Hopes exhibition, showcasing creations by Moroccan youth who have benefited from a Silatech Foundation project in partnership with Al Amana Microfinance Institution. This initiative has empowered over 134,000 young individuals by providing them with resources to turn their passions into sustainable livelihoods. EAA Foundation’s Youth Advocate, Ahmed Saif Al Hajari, shared insights on youth-led sustainability projects, emphasizing the pivotal role of education in achieving the SDGs.

The event also featured a curated exhibition of Moroccan caftans by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Thani, reflecting the country’s vibrant artistic heritage. Exquisite displays of Amazigh jewellery and Kaftans by Siham El Habti showcased Morocco’s traditional craftsmanship. A special showcase of vintage Kaftans in collaboration with renowned designers Yves Saint Laurent and Jean Paul Gaultier added a touch of glamour to the evening. Additionally, guests experienced a sustainable gastronomy journey with plant-based Moroccan cuisine by Chef David Fhima.

Dr. Najat Maalla M’jid was honored with the Children’s Advocacy Award for her exceptional work in promoting and protecting children’s rights. Dr. M’jid, the Special Representative on Violence against Children appointed by the UN Secretary-General, has dedicated her career to advocating for children’s wellbeing. The banquet was part of a two-day program that also included Fashion 4 Development’s 12th Annual First Ladies Luncheon, further emphasizing the intersection of fashion, diplomacy, education, and sustainable development.

Years of Culture’s participation in the Sustainable Goals Banquet highlights the organization’s commitment to fostering cultural partnerships and promoting mutual understanding among nations. The upcoming Qatar-Morocco 2024 Year of Culture will be marked by a series of events celebrating the shared heritage and future aspirations of both nations. Through initiatives like Weaving Hopes and advocacy efforts by individuals like Ahmed Saif Al Hajari and Dr. Najat Maalla M’jid, the event underscored the importance of collaboration and education in achieving sustainable development goals. The fusion of fashion, culture, and philanthropy at the banquet exemplified the power of collective action in driving positive change on a global scale.
