South Korean drama viewers were left puzzled on July 20 and July 21 when XRP hackers took control of two top YouTube channels. The attack targeted the tvN Drama and TVING channels, both owned by the South Korean conglomerate CJ. tvN Drama, with over 7.11 million subscribers, features popular dramas from the tvN network, while TVING boasts over 985,000 subscribers and hosts South Korean drama and reality TV content. During the attack, hackers changed channel logos, banners, and descriptions to Ripple logos and XRP-related titles and began streaming Ripple and XRP-themed videos.

TVING acknowledged the hacking on July 20 and assured viewers that they were working with YouTube to resolve the issue and restore the channel. They warned subscribers to avoid clicking on suspicious videos or links to prevent any damage. Despite efforts to rectify the situation, issues persisted on July 21 with some channels appearing to have been purged of Ripple-related videos but still displaying the Ripple logo. However, the operators of the K-Drama channels reassured viewers that the situation had been resolved, and all channel operations had returned to normal.

South Korean internet users reported difficulties accessing tvN Drama and TVING content on July 20, with some noting the presence of strange videos in their feeds. XRP enjoys widespread popularity in South Korea, with daily trading volumes surpassing those of Bitcoin and USDT on domestic crypto exchanges. The incident highlights the vulnerability of popular YouTube channels to hacking attacks and underscores the importance of cybersecurity measures to protect online content and subscribers. It also serves as a reminder for viewers to exercise caution when interacting with unfamiliar content to prevent falling victim to cyber threats.
