The Friends of the Environment Center (FEC) of the Ministry of Sports and Youth recently hosted an awareness-raising workshop as part of the ‘I Explore’ summer program. The workshop aimed to educate young girls on various agricultural and eco themes in order to promote eco-culture and sustainable practices. Participants learned about different types of aromatic and wild herbs found in Qatari habitats, their uses in traditional medicine, and how to incorporate them into recipes. The workshop also included information on the natural habitats of these plants, methods of planting and caring for them, and their growth stages.

The event was attended by a large number of girls who are part of the ‘I Explore’ summer program, indicating a growing interest in environmental education among the youth in Qatar. By providing detailed explanations and practical demonstrations, the workshop successfully engaged participants and encouraged them to explore the natural world around them. Through showcasing local herbs and their uses, the girls gained valuable knowledge that they can apply in their daily lives and become stewards of the environment.

The FEC’s vision of spreading eco-culture and instilling lasting understandings in young men and women is evident in the topics covered in the workshop. By focusing on agricultural and eco themes, the center is empowering the next generation to make informed decisions about environmental conservation and sustainability. The workshop not only provided theoretical knowledge but also practical skills that can be applied in everyday life, such as planting and caring for herbs and incorporating them into recipes.

Participants were introduced to a wide variety of local herbs, each with its own unique characteristics and uses. By learning about the natural habitats of these plants and how to cultivate them, the girls gained a deeper appreciation for the biodiversity that exists in Qatar. Additionally, the workshop highlighted the importance of traditional knowledge in preserving and utilizing natural resources for medicinal and culinary purposes. By understanding the value of these herbs, participants can contribute to the preservation of local flora and promote sustainable practices in their communities.

Overall, the awareness-raising workshop organized by the FEC was a valuable learning experience for the young girls involved in the ‘I Explore’ summer program. By increasing their knowledge of agricultural and eco themes, the workshop equipped participants with the tools they need to make positive changes in their communities and contribute to environmental conservation efforts. The hands-on activities and practical demonstrations enabled the girls to engage with the material in a meaningful way and inspired them to explore new ways to connect with nature. As the next generation of environmental stewards, these girls have the potential to make a significant impact on the future of Qatar’s environment.
