The Shura Council recently held its regular weekly meeting in Doha to discuss various topics related to technology and digital transformation in Qatar. During the meeting, the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Mohammed bin Ali Al Mannai, presented the Ministry’s strategic plans, focusing on digital transformation, enhancing the e-government infrastructure, and encouraging investment in the technology sector. The Council members welcomed the Minister and praised the Ministry’s efforts to advance communication and IT services in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030.

The Council discussed the topic of the “disadvantages of using technology” in previous sessions and submitted a suggestion to the government to address the negative impacts of modern technology and raise awareness on the risks associated with it. The Minister highlighted the Ministry’s digital transformation strategy, focusing on upgrading digital infrastructure, enhancing e-government services, and increasing government transparency and community engagement. He emphasized the importance of the Digital Agenda 2030 in building a prosperous digital future for Qatar and positioning the country as a global hub for technology and innovation.

The Minister also discussed the Ministry’s initiatives to support innovation and emerging projects, including the digital factory and investment funds for promising projects. He stressed the importance of developing laws and regulatory frameworks related to technology, protecting community members from e-fraud, and educating society about the benefits and risks of technology. The Council members commended the Ministry’s efforts to develop the digital infrastructure and enhance digital transformation, emphasizing the need for legislation related to AI, improving government services, and protecting community members from electronic fraud.

In response to questions from the Council members, the Minister affirmed the Ministry’s cooperation with research institutions to study the effects of artificial intelligence and develop a regulatory framework for AI. He also discussed efforts to improve and digitize government services, combat e-crimes, and provide technological education programs to develop young people’s skills. The Minister reiterated the focus of the digital strategy on achieving economic and social benefits for citizens and ensuring support for groups facing difficulties in adapting to technological advancements.

In conclusion, the Speaker of the Shura Council expressed gratitude to HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani for his support and interest in the communications and information technology sector. He emphasized the Council’s commitment to supporting the Ministry’s efforts to develop the IT infrastructure, facilitate digital transformation, and achieve the goals of the Qatar National Vision 2030.
