India skipper Rohit Sharma recently announced his retirement from T20I cricket after leading his team to victory in the T20 World Cup. With 4,231 runs in 159 games, Rohit is the format’s top scorer and holds the record for the most hundreds in T20 internationals. He has captained India to two T20 World Cup victories, the first in 2007 and the most recent in 2024.

In a video shared on the official Instagram account of the ICC, Rohit Sharma was seen celebrating his final T20I match by consuming soil from the pitch of Kensington Oval in Barbados. This symbolic gesture was a way for Rohit to commemorate the special moments of his T20I career and bid farewell to the format in a unique manner.

Minutes after his teammate Virat Kohli announced his retirement from T20Is, Rohit Sharma followed suit and made the decision to step away from the shortest format of cricket. The duo of Kohli and Sharma, who have been integral to Indian cricket for many years, bid adieu to T20 cricket in a heartfelt manner.

In the final match of the tournament, India won the toss and chose to bat first, posting a total of 176/7 in their 20 overs. Virat Kohli’s knock of 76, along with contributions from Axar Patel and Shivam Dube, helped India set a competitive target. India’s bowlers, including Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, and Hardik Pandya, defended the total successfully to secure the T20 World Cup title.

Virat Kohli was named the Player of the Match for his exceptional performance in the final. With this victory, India ended their ICC trophy drought and secured their first ICC title since the Champions Trophy in 2013. The win brought much joy to Indian cricket fans and highlighted the team’s success on the international stage.
