Students from the Al-Thiqa Club for the Disabled recently had the opportunity to participate in a baking workshop at the ABA Baking Arts Training Center in Sharjah. The one-day session involved learning various baking skills under the guidance of Chef Mohamed El Marouk. With a focus on cupcake making, the students of determination dedicated nearly five hours to perfecting every sweet detail from scratch. Throughout the workshop, Chef Mohamed shared his expertise and knowledge with the students, making sure they understood the science behind tasks like melting chocolate and whipping batter.

The students were eager to learn and demonstrated their attentiveness by hanging on to every word spoken by Chef Mohamed. They were also provided with hands-on demonstrations to ensure they grasped the proper techniques for tasks such as whisking and piping batter. After mastering the basics, the students proceeded to make the cupcake batter and carefully filled each cupcake mold with precision. In addition to acquiring new baking skills, the students also gained confidence and precision in handling various kitchen tools, enhancing their overall culinary capabilities.

One of the participants, Fatema AlKibaly, was excited to learn new tips from the workshop, particularly adding orange zest to sugar to enhance flavor. As someone who enjoys cooking and baking on a daily basis, Fatema was eager to implement the newly acquired skills in her own kitchen. For teacher Hafiza Kaddoura, the workshop served as an opportunity to equip students with essential life skills that they can use in their daily lives. She emphasized the importance of nurturing the diverse talents of the students and providing them with opportunities to excel in various fields such as sports, cooking, and art.

Chef Mohamed El Marouk shared his enthusiasm for teaching and empowering students with valuable baking skills. He highlighted the satisfaction he derives from seeing students succeed and the joy of witnessing their progress. At the conclusion of the workshop, the students were acknowledged for their achievements with certificates of merit. The ABA Baking Arts Training Center offers a range of classes in baking, breadmaking, and gelato crafting, providing students with opportunities to enhance their culinary proficiency.

In addition to baking workshops, the Al Thiqa Club for disabled offers a wide array of activities such as painting, sports, and resin art. The club also hosts in-house cooking lessons to further develop the students’ skills and interests. Established in 1987, the Al Thiqa Club welcomes students of all ages and endeavors to provide a supportive environment where individuals can explore their talents and passions. Overall, the baking workshop at the ABA Training Center was a rewarding experience for the students, allowing them to learn new skills, gain confidence, and foster their love for baking.
