Ajman Police has issued a reminder to motorists to maintain lane discipline and avoid illegal swerving to prevent a fine of Dh1,000 and four black points. This reminder is part of their road safety awareness campaign called ‘Your Commitment Means Safety’. Authorities highlighted factors such as unsafe vehicle tires and failure to perform regular vehicle inspections that can lead to accidental swerving. Motorists were also reminded to use indicators when changing lanes, adhere to safety guidelines during rainy conditions, avoid distractions while driving, and not exceed speed limits.

The deputy director of Ajman Police’s traffic and patrols department, Lt. Col. Rashid Humaid bin Hindi, emphasized that sudden swerving in the UAE can result in a fine of Dh1,000 and four black points on the driving license. Sudden deviation or swerving is a significant cause of road accidents, with statistics showing that it accounted for 71% of total fatalities and 61% of all injuries on UAE roads in 2023. The Ministry of Interior reported 352 road fatalities in the country last year, a slight increase from the previous year, but a decrease from 2021. Ajman recorded 11 deaths and 133 injuries due to road accidents in the same year.

Authorities and road safety experts have provided safety measures for motorists to follow before changing lanes on the road. These measures include checking mirrors, ensuring there are no vehicles behind or beside, looking over the shoulder to clear the lane, checking blind spots for other vehicles, and ensuring there is enough space for the car to move to the next lane. Following these guidelines can help prevent accidents and ensure road safety for all motorists.

It is crucial for motorists to be aware of the risks associated with sudden swerving and the importance of maintaining lane discipline while driving. By following safety measures and guidelines, drivers can contribute to a safer road environment and reduce the likelihood of accidents. The reminder from Ajman Police serves as a timely reinforcement of road safety practices and the consequences of illegal swerving. Motorists are encouraged to prioritize safety on the road and avoid behaviors that could endanger themselves and others.

Road safety is a shared responsibility that requires the cooperation of all road users, including motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists. By following traffic rules and regulations, respecting other road users, and staying alert while driving, individuals can contribute to a safer road environment for everyone. The awareness campaign by Ajman Police aims to educate motorists about the importance of lane discipline and the dangers of sudden swerving, emphasizing the need for responsible and attentive driving behavior. By promoting road safety awareness, authorities hope to reduce accidents and save lives on the roads.
