UAE government announces new cabinet ministers; Sheikh Hamdan appointed as Deputy Prime Minister

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has been appointed as the Minister of Defence and Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE, joining the federal government alongside other officials in sweeping changes announced by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Sheikh Mohammed expressed confidence in Sheikh Hamdan’s leadership abilities and his potential to contribute significantly to shaping the country’s future. In addition to Sheikh Hamdan, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan has been named Deputy Prime Minister while retaining his role as Minister of Foreign Affairs. Sarah Al Amiri has been appointed as the Minister of Education, replacing her previous role as Minister of State for Public Education and Advanced Technology. Dr Abdul Rahman Al Awar, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation, will also act as the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research. Ahmed Belhoul, former Minister of Education, will now head the Sports Ministry, and Alia Abdullah Al Mazroui has been appointed as the Minister of State for Entrepreneurship.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum expressed his confidence in Sheikh Hamdan, emphasizing his leadership qualities and his ability to positively impact the UAE’s government and society. This move to appoint Sheikh Hamdan as Minister of Defence and Deputy Prime Minister signifies the country’s commitment to effective leadership and governance. The appointment of Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan as Deputy Prime Minister also reflects the government’s strategic decision-making process, ensuring continuity and strength in key positions within the federal government.

Sarah Al Amiri’s appointment as the Minister of Education highlights the government’s focus on enhancing the education sector in the UAE. With her experience in public education and advanced technology, Al Amiri is well-positioned to drive positive change and innovation in the education system, catering to the needs of students and educators alike. The decision to expand the Education and Human Resources Council to include the Ministry of Community Development reflects a holistic approach to addressing social and economic challenges through a collaborative and integrated government framework.

Dr Abdul Rahman Al Awar’s dual role as Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation, as well as the acting Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, underscores the government’s commitment to workforce development and academic excellence.
