Kidzink, a Dubai-based firm, has partnered with Waste to Wonder Worldwide, a UK Social Enterprise and Charity, to build a community culinary school and sustainable farm in West Africa, specifically in The Gambia. The project aims to provide education and skills development opportunities for the youth in areas such as front-of-house and back-of-house skills, sustainable cooking, agriculture, hospitality, and tourism. The culinary school will also employ local community members and support local businesses. The partnership aligns with Kidzink’s commitment to social impact and sustainability, extending their work to serve the community and generations to come.

As part of the project, Chef Conor Spacey, also known as the ‘Zero-waste’ Chef, will provide guidance and insights for the design and construction of the school and surrounding area. Chef Spacey will equip the community with tools and skills for sustainable cooking and agriculture through video lessons on sustainable cooking techniques, making the educational experience accessible for students. The collaboration with Waste to Wonder Worldwide ensures that functional furniture reaches underserved communities, enhancing educational facilities and outcomes while also reducing waste and emissions.

Michael Amos, Managing Director of Waste to Wonder Worldwide, expressed excitement about partnering with Kidzink on this transformative project, highlighting the shared commitment to empowering communities through sustainable initiatives. By collaborating with Kidzink, the aim is to provide practical education, skills development opportunities, and create a lasting impact on the environment and the lives of individuals in The Gambia and beyond. The project emphasizes the importance of food in building a circular economy, benefitting everyone involved and providing vital skills to combat poverty.

The culinary school in The Gambia will focus on teaching young people essential skills in sustainable cooking, agriculture, hospitality, and tourism, positioning them for a future that values environmental consciousness. The school will not only benefit the students but also the wider community, with the potential to create positive change for generations to come. By employing members of the local community and supporting local businesses, the culinary school will have a lasting impact on the area and contribute to the overall development and sustainability of the region.

The collaboration between Kidzink, Waste to Wonder Worldwide, and Chef Conor Spacey aims to create a holistic approach to sustainability and skills development in The Gambia. Through innovative design, educational programs, and community involvement, the project seeks to empower individuals and create long-term benefits for the environment and the local community. The partnership demonstrates a commitment to social impact and sustainability, showcasing the potential of collaborative efforts to drive positive change and create a brighter future for all involved. With a focus on education, skills training, and sustainable practices, the project is set to make a meaningful impact on the lives of individuals in West Africa and beyond.
