The Sharjah Public Library has received a grant of Dh 2.5 million from Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. This grant will be used to purchase the latest titles from participating publishers and booksellers at the ongoing 15th annual Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival (SCRF 2024). The grant is awarded annually to the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) event, with the aim of supporting the regional and global book industries, improving Sharjah’s offerings to readers, students, researchers, academics, and general knowledge seekers in the UAE and beyond, and affirming the role of libraries in societal development.

Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of SBA, expressed gratitude for the generous grant from the Ruler of Sharjah, highlighting its support for publishers and knowledge seekers in the UAE and Sharjah. She emphasized the importance of fostering an appreciation for books, knowledge, and learning in younger generations, as this is crucial for the realization of present and future goals. She noted that the roots of development and cultural growth are firmly secured in libraries, underscoring Sharjah’s commitment to promoting literacy and education.

The initiative reflects Sharjah’s belief in the transformative power of books and knowledge, as well as its dedication to nurturing a culture of reading and learning among its citizens. By investing in the latest titles and resources, the Sharjah Public Library aims to provide a valuable resource for individuals seeking to expand their knowledge and engage with diverse perspectives. The grant serves as a testament to the Ruler’s vision for a well-informed and enlightened society, where access to information and education is prioritized.

In addition to supporting publishers and knowledge seekers, the grant also plays a vital role in advancing the cultural and educational landscape of Sharjah and the UAE as a whole. By enhancing the collections available at the public library, the grant contributes to the enrichment of educational resources and the promotion of lifelong learning. This initiative aligns with the broader goal of promoting literacy and intellectual development in the community, thereby fostering a society that values education and continuous self-improvement.

Overall, the allocation of Dh 2.5 million to the Sharjah Public Library underscores the commitment of the Ruler of Sharjah to supporting the book industry, promoting knowledge acquisition, and investing in the intellectual growth of individuals. Through this grant, the library will continue to serve as a hub for learning, exploration, and cultural exchange, enriching the lives of residents and visitors alike. The partnership between the Ruler of Sharjah and the Sharjah Book Authority exemplifies a shared vision for a society that values literacy, education, and the pursuit of knowledge.
