Tourism Executives in UAE Report Consistent Travel Demand in Summer and Winter

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has become a year-round tourist destination, with hotels and airlines experiencing consistent room and seat occupancy levels throughout the summer months. This trend is attributed to the growing number of new tourist attractions in the country, which both foreign visitors and residents can enjoy during the summer season. Hotel and airline executives have noted that foreign visitors are increasingly combining visits to both Dubai and Abu Dhabi when traveling to the UAE.

According to Haitham Mattar, the managing director for India, Middle East, and Africa at IHG Hotels and Resorts, Dubai has become a sought-after destination throughout the year due to various activities and initiatives by Dubai tourism. Mattar highlighted that Dubai has transformed into a 365-day-a-year destination, attracting visitors for meetings, events, leisure travel, and Indian weddings. The city’s popularity has led to a significant increase in demand during the summer months, with occupancy levels reaching as high as 90% in certain areas.

The IHG Hotels group operates 33 properties in the UAE, providing a total of 10,000 keys for visitors. Mattar emphasized the close collaboration between the group and Dubai tourism leadership to identify key source markets across different seasons. Joint marketing campaigns have been successful in driving visitor numbers, even during traditionally slower periods such as the summer and Ramadan. Mattar also mentioned that events like Orthodox Easter have brought in visitors from Russia, further contributing to the bustling tourism industry in Dubai.

Johan Eidhagen, the managing director of Wizz Air Abu Dhabi, highlighted the growing trend of visitors exploring both Dubai and Abu Dhabi during their trips to the UAE. Eidhagen emphasized that people are choosing to spend longer periods in both cities due to the abundance of attractions and the perceived safety of the destinations. The airline has seen a 50% growth in passenger carriers and a high load factor, with a mix of routes catering to various travel preferences.

Eidhagen also noted that people are planning their trips further in advance, resulting in earlier bookings and a more predictable growth trajectory for the airline. The airline is expecting double-digit growth for the year, with plans to expand into smaller regional airports in countries like Saudi Arabia and introduce more destinations in Europe. This proactive approach to route expansion and strategic planning has positioned the airline for continued success in the competitive travel market.

Overall, the UAE’s tourism industry continues to thrive year-round, with a diverse range of attractions and marketing initiatives attracting visitors from around the world. The collaboration between hotel chains, airlines, and tourism authorities has been instrumental in driving growth and maintaining high occupancy levels, even during traditionally slower periods. As the country explores new markets and expands its travel offerings, the future looks promising for the UAE as a premier tourist destination.
