The Southern Governorate Municipality in Manama is set to embark on a project to upgrade the popular Istiqlal Walkway, a public space in the area that is frequented by residents and visitors alike. The project will involve a range of improvements, including replacing the current rubber flooring with asphalt, repairing smart fitness equipment, and enhancing the main entrance area. The tender for the project will be advertised on the Tender Board website, signaling the municipality’s commitment to transparent and competitive procurement processes.

During a visit to the area in November 2023, Minister of Municipalities and Agriculture, Wael Al Mubarak, reviewed the future development plan for the Istiqlal Walkway. The plan includes installing a climate control system, solar-powered lighting, upgrading facilities, adding new play equipment for children and people with disabilities, and installing additional shade structures. These enhancements are aimed at making the walkway more accessible and enjoyable for all visitors, reflecting the municipality’s commitment to creating inclusive public spaces.

Chairman of the Southern Governorate Municipal Council, Abdullah Abdullatif, has emphasized the importance of a complete renovation of the Istiqlal Walkway, including the provision of dedicated pathways for people with disabilities. This commitment to accessibility and inclusivity underscores the municipality’s dedication to ensuring that public spaces cater to the diverse needs of the community. The planned upgrades to the walkway are expected to significantly enhance the visitor experience and promote the area as a vibrant and welcoming destination for outdoor activities.

The Istiqlal Walkway is a significant public space in the Southern Governorate, and the planned upgrades are expected to breathe new life into the area, attracting more visitors and creating a sense of community and vitality. The project is part of the municipality’s ongoing efforts to enhance its public spaces and amenities, reflecting a commitment to sustainable and inclusive urban development. By investing in the improvement of the walkway, the municipality is not only enhancing the quality of life for residents but also contributing to the overall attractiveness and appeal of the area as a whole.

The upgrade project for the Istiqlal Walkway signifies a step towards modernizing and revitalizing public spaces in the Southern Governorate. The planned improvements, including the replacement of flooring, repair of fitness equipment, and development of the entrance area, will create a more inviting and functional environment for visitors of all ages and abilities. By incorporating elements such as climate control systems and solar-powered lighting, the municipality is also demonstrating its commitment to sustainable and environmentally friendly practices in urban development.

In conclusion, the upgrade project for the Istiqlal Walkway in Manama represents a significant investment in the improvement of public spaces in the Southern Governorate. The planned enhancements, which include replacing the rubber flooring, repairing fitness equipment, and developing the entrance area, will create a more accessible, inclusive, and enjoyable environment for residents and visitors. By prioritizing accessibility and sustainability in the upgrade project, the municipality is setting a positive example for urban development in the region and demonstrating its commitment to creating vibrant and welcoming public spaces for the community.
