The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology in Muscat has kicked off the second part of the second phase of the Al Sharqiyah Expressway project, with a budget of over OMR 68 million. This phase spans from Al Kamil and Al Wafi to Sur and is being carried out by “Tasnim Projects Limited”. The project aims to connect the wilayats of North and South Al Sharqiyah, enhancing the transportation infrastructure in the region.

The remaining works of the project include upgrading the current road to a dual carriageway with three lanes, stretching approximately 52 kilometers from Al Kamil to Sur. Additionally, a section of about 3 kilometers from Bilad Sur roundabout to Sur Plaza Hotel will be transformed into a double-track road with two lanes. The project also entails constructing an overhead intersection, bridges across valleys, arched overhead bridges, tunnels for vehicles and pedestrians, as well as installing lighting and traffic lights in Sur.

The Al Sharqiyah Expressway project is a significant infrastructure development endeavor that aims to improve connectivity and transportation efficiency in the region. The investment of over OMR 68 million reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing the road network and promoting economic growth in Al Sharqiyah. The completion of this project will not only facilitate smoother traffic flow but also boost socio-economic development in the area.

The dual carriageway upgrade of the Al Sharqiyah Expressway from Al Kamil to Sur is a crucial aspect of the project, as it will increase road capacity and improve safety for commuters. The construction of bridges, tunnels, and overhead intersections will further enhance connectivity and accessibility in the region, making it easier for people and goods to move between different areas. The addition of traffic lights and lighting will also contribute to better road safety and efficiency.

Furthermore, the development of the Al Sharqiyah Expressway project will have a positive impact on the local communities, as it will create jobs during the construction phase and stimulate economic activity in the region. The enhanced transportation infrastructure will attract more investments and businesses to the area, driving growth and prosperity. Improved road networks will also benefit residents by providing better access to schools, healthcare facilities, and other essential services.

In conclusion, the ongoing work on the second phase of the Al Sharqiyah Expressway project signifies a significant milestone in the development of transportation infrastructure in Oman. The project’s completion will bring about improved connectivity, enhanced road safety, and increased economic opportunities for the people of Al Sharqiyah. With a focus on modernizing and expanding the road network, the government is paving the way for sustainable growth and development in the region.
