Abu Dhabi’s population has recorded significant growth, reaching 3,789,860 people, which is an 83% increase compared to 2011, based on the primary results of the Abu Dhabi Census 2023. The data shows that males make up 67% of the total population, while females represent 33%. The median age of the population is 33 years, indicating a relatively young demographic in the emirate.

The Abu Dhabi region has the largest population with 2,495,925 people, accounting for 66% of the total population. This is followed by the Al Ain region with 1,009,735 people (27%) and the Al Dhafra region with 284,205 people (7%). The growth in population is attributed to the economic development and shift towards a knowledge-based economy, positioning Abu Dhabi as a favorable destination for business, investment, and talent.

The employed population in Abu Dhabi has seen an 82% increase since 2011, totaling 2,522,390 individuals. This reflects the transformation of Abu Dhabi into a hub for various job opportunities. White-collar workers constitute 46% of the employed workforce, witnessing a 109% surge, while 54% are blue-collar workers, showing a 65% growth. This diversity highlights the dynamic expansion of the workforce in the emirate.

The number of residential and non-residential units in Abu Dhabi has increased by 66% since 2011, reaching 754,555 units. Residential units constitute 58% of the total, with 441,410 units, while non-residential units make up the remaining 42% with 313,145 units. This growth is a result of the ongoing infrastructure developments in the emirate, catering to the rising population and economic demands.

The successful completion of the Abu Dhabi Census 2023 was made possible through the support of Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the coordination among relevant government entities. The census relied entirely on administrative records, demonstrating the efficient integration achieved. The Statistics Centre – Abu Dhabi is committed to aligning with the emirate’s strategic transformations and adopting advanced technologies to provide accurate statistical data for decision-makers, planners, and researchers.

Overall, the population growth and economic developments in Abu Dhabi indicate a thriving environment for residents, businesses, and investors. The shift towards a knowledge-based economy, along with the infrastructure enhancements and employment opportunities, position Abu Dhabi as a dynamic and attractive destination in the region. The investment in technology and statistical frameworks by the Statistics Centre – Abu Dhabi ensures reliable and comprehensive data for informed decision-making and planning.
