Doha, Qatar recently saw the opening of an eight-bed ambulatory dialysis unit at the Muaither Health Center, a joint effort between Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) to provide life-changing services closer to patients. The unit was officially inaugurated by key officials on May 9, 2024, marking a significant step in improving access to vital healthcare services in the region.

Dialysis is a critical procedure for patients with kidney issues, enabling the removal of excess water and waste products from the body. Dr. Hassan Al Malki, Head of Nephrology at HMC, highlighted the importance of dialysis for individuals of all ages and backgrounds, with an estimated one in 10 people in Qatar experiencing some form of kidney impairment. The new ambulatory dialysis unit at Muaither offers a unique collaboration between HMC and PHCC, providing patients with more convenient access to essential services.

The Muaither facility is one of four dialysis units catering to kidney patients, expanding access to crucial healthcare services within the region. Established through a collaborative effort involving public donors, PHCC, and HMC, the ambulatory dialysis unit aims to enhance the overall quality of care for patients, enabling them to receive regular treatment closer to their homes. With locations at Al Wakra, Al Shehaniya, and Al Shamal also offering dialysis services, patients in the outskirts of Doha have easier access to necessary healthcare treatments.

Dr. Samya Ahmad Al Abdulla, Executive Director of Operations at PHCC, emphasized the significant role of the Ambulatory Dialysis Unit in improving access to dialysis services for patients. By providing treatments at Primary Healthcare Centers, the unit ensures that patients can receive care more conveniently, leading to better outcomes and enhanced patient experiences. The collaborative effort between HMC, PHCC, and public donors underscores a commitment to enhancing healthcare services in the region.

Overall, the opening of the new ambulatory dialysis unit at Muaither Health Center represents a step forward in improving access to life-saving healthcare services for kidney patients in Qatar. With a focus on enhancing patient care and convenience, the unit aims to make dialysis treatments more accessible and efficient for individuals in need. Through collaboration between key healthcare organizations and public donors, the unit is set to have a positive impact on patient outcomes and overall healthcare provision in the region.
