The Qatar Calendar House recently announced that the star of Suhail is set to rise on August 24, signaling the start of the Suhail season in Qatar and the GCC countries. The Suhail year, as identified by the QCH, consists of seasons such as Al-Murabba’iyah, Al-Wasmi, Al-Safri, and Al-Kanna. Throughout history, people have relied on these seasons to determine the best time for agriculture, grazing, traveling, and anticipating changes in climate.

Dr. Bashir Marzouk, an astronomer at the Qatar Calendar House, emphasized that Suhail’s rise brings about a gradual decrease in temperatures, particularly noticeable at night. The Suhail star also signifies the beginning of seasonal changes and moderation in weather conditions. According to Dr. Marzouk, the Wasmi period, which is projected to occur in early October, is considered the best period in terms of weather conditions. The gradual drop in humidity levels during this period leads to a more moderate climate.

The Suhail season lasts for 52 days and is divided into four periods, each lasting 13 days. As each period passes, there is a noticeable decrease in temperature. Renowned Saudi meteorologist Dr. Khalid Al Zaaq described Suhail as the dividing line between hot summer and mild autumn. He explained that during the 52-day duration of Suhail, both temperature and humidity levels gradually improve, making it a transition period from summer to autumn.

The rise of the Suhail star is not only significant for meteorological purposes but is also deeply rooted in Arab folklore. An old Gulf Arab anecdote warns of “cold nights and floods” in connection with Suhail’s rise, indicating a change in weather patterns. The star of Suhail has historically been used as a guide for farmers, travelers, and those who depend on climate-related activities for their livelihood.

The Qatar Calendar House’s announcement of the Suhail season’s beginning serves as a reminder of the importance of understanding celestial events and their impact on weather patterns. The transition from hot summer to mild autumn marks a significant shift in climatic conditions, prompting people to prepare for changes in temperature and humidity levels. As Suhail rises over Qatar skies, it signals the start of a new season and a period of moderation in weather conditions.

Overall, the star of Suhail plays a crucial role in determining the changing seasons in Qatar and the GCC countries. As people observe the rise of Suhail and anticipate the arrival of the Wasmi period, they are reminded of the natural cycles that govern weather patterns and agricultural activities. By understanding the significance of celestial events like the rise of Suhail, individuals can better prepare for the seasonal changes that lie ahead.
