The Filipino Writers’ Circle, in collaboration with the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) and the Philippine Embassy, recently held a successful “On the Spot Essay Writing Contest” in Manama, Bahrain. The event, which highlighted the importance of writing in Filipino culture, was attended by the Philippine Ambassador to Bahrain, Anne Jalando-on Louis. The participants showcased their talents by exploring the theme “Kalayaan, Kinabukasan, Kasaysayan” (Freedom, Future, History) through their essays, sharing stories of Philippine history and culture with the Filipino community in Bahrain.

Filwrite President Cecil V. Ancheta emphasized the significant role that writing plays in inspiring change, stimulating thought, and preserving voices within a culture. The event not only celebrated the 126th anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence but also provided a platform for Filipino writers to showcase their creativity and writing prowess. The competition was held at the Sentro Rizal, Philippine Embassy in Manama, and the contestants received recognition for their efforts in making the event a meaningful and memorable celebration in Bahrain.

The winners of the contest were Maria Carmella R. Solido, a nursing graduate who secured the first place, followed by Lornalyn Penuliar, a medical center receptionist in second place, and Melinda Nomananap, a teacher, theatre moderator, and Filipino subject coordinator in third place. These individuals demonstrated their passion for writing and their ability to weave compelling essays that resonated with the Filipino community in Bahrain. The theme of “Kalayaan, Kinabukasan, Kasaysayan” allowed them to explore different aspects of Philippine history, culture, and the importance of freedom in shaping the future.

Overall, the “On the Spot Essay Writing Contest” served as a platform for Filipino writers in Bahrain to showcase their talents and contribute to the celebration of Philippine Independence. The event was a testament to the power of writing in preserving cultural heritage, sharing stories, and inspiring change within a community. The support from the Philippine Embassy and the Migrant Workers Office, along with the participation of Ambassador Anne Jalando-on Louis, helped make the event a success and reinforced the importance of promoting Filipino culture and literature abroad.

Moving forward, the Filipino Writers’ Circle aims to continue organizing similar events that promote writing and creativity among the Filipino community in Bahrain. By providing opportunities for writers to share their stories and perspectives, the organization hopes to strengthen cultural ties, inspire thought, and encourage dialogue within the community. The success of the recent essay writing contest serves as a testament to the talent and dedication of Filipino writers in Bahrain and their commitment to preserving and promoting Filipino culture through the written word.
