Germany midfielder Toni Kroos believes that the German national team is under pressure to perform well as hosts of the Euro 2024 tournament. However, Kroos also emphasized that playing a major tournament on home soil is a privilege and a rare opportunity for most professional footballers. The Germans are set to kick off the tournament with their opening match against Scotland in Munich, followed by games against Hungary and Switzerland. Kroos, who recently won the Champions League with Real Madrid and will retire after the Euros, acknowledged the pressure on the hosts to deliver after a decade without a major international title.

Despite the expectations, Kroos urged his teammates to enjoy the experience and the special atmosphere of playing at home. He highlighted the responsibility that the players have in shaping the mood of the country during the tournament. The midfielder emphasized the honor and joy of being able to participate in a home tournament, stressing the rarity of such an opportunity for players. Germany, a four-time world champion and three-time European champion, has not won a major tournament since the 2014 World Cup and has faced disappointment in recent years, including early exits in the World Cup and Euros.

Kroos acknowledged the pressure on the team but emphasized the need to embrace it and channel it positively. He highlighted the desire of the team to make amends for past tournaments and to influence the atmosphere in a positive way. Despite their recent shortcomings, Germany boasts a squad of high quality, and Kroos believes that they have the potential to perform well in the tournament. The midfielder also acknowledged the need for improvement in certain aspects of their game, especially to minimize phases where the team does not perform well collectively.

In their final warm-up matches, Germany managed a goalless draw against Ukraine before securing a 2-1 comeback win over Greece with an 89th-minute goal. Kroos sees the tournament as a perfect opportunity for the team to showcase their abilities and demonstrate that they can perform consistently at a high level. He emphasized the importance of minimizing weak phases in their game, as they will face strong opponents in the tournament. Kroos believes that addressing these issues is crucial for Germany to make a strong impression and compete effectively in Euro 2024.

In conclusion, as the pressure mounts on the German national team to perform well in Euro 2024 as hosts, midfielder Toni Kroos highlights the privilege and honor of playing a major tournament on home soil. Despite recent disappointments, Kroos and his teammates are determined to make amends and positively influence the atmosphere during the tournament. With a talented squad and the motivation to perform at a high level, Germany aims to showcase their abilities and minimize weaknesses to compete effectively in the tournament. The expectations are high, but Kroos is confident that the team can rise to the challenge and deliver a strong performance in Euro 2024.
