The International Day of Parliamentarism is a crucial occasion to acknowledge the significant role that legislative councils and parliaments play in promoting peace, understanding, and dialogue to resolve disputes and conflicts. The Shura Council in Doha recently issued a statement highlighting the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in building bridges for peace and harmony around the world. The Council expressed gratitude to Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for his continued support and belief in public participation in decision-making processes.

The statement also recognized the essential role played by parliamentarians worldwide in achieving the aspirations of their people and safeguarding their rights. It shed light on the global challenges to peace and security, particularly the violations of human rights and war crimes, such as the ongoing conflict in Gaza. The Council strongly denounced these violations and called for immediate action from the international community to put an end to the injustices and achieve peace and justice in the region.

The inability of the international community to hold war criminals accountable and deter aggressors has increased the responsibilities of parliamentarians to advocate for peace and justice. The statement urged the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and its members to act swiftly to stop the unjust aggression in Gaza and lift the siege on Palestinian cities. It called on governments to embrace the theme of the International Day of Parliamentarism by laying the foundations of justice and peace by supporting the occupied Palestinian territories as a launching pad for global peace efforts.

In conclusion, the Shura Council reaffirmed its commitment to advancing the interests of the State of Qatar under the leadership of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. By advocating for peace, understanding, and dialogue, parliamentary bodies play a crucial role in promoting harmony and resolving conflicts. The statement issued by the Shura Council serves as a reminder of the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in building bridges for peace and understanding in a world fraught with challenges to global security and peace. With the support of leaders like HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, parliamentarians worldwide can continue to work towards achieving peace, justice, and stability for their people and beyond.
