The Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers, HH Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud Al Said, recently met with Arsenio Domínguez, the Secretary General of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), and his delegation in Muscat. During the meeting, HH Sayyid Fahd emphasized Oman’s appreciation for the crucial role played by the IMO in enhancing marine navigation and ensuring the safety of passengers and sea voyages in international waters. He also highlighted Oman’s ongoing efforts to collaborate with the IMO to improve maritime transport, secure maritime routes, and address related challenges.

In response, the Secretary General of the IMO praised Oman for its significant strategic position as a regional maritime center that contributes to the security and safety of international maritime routes in the region. He further emphasized the importance of the visit in discussing ways to support Oman’s nomination for Category (C) membership in the executive council of the IMO. The meeting was also attended by Eng. Said Hamoud Al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, and Eng. Khamis Mohammed Al Shamakhi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology.
