Sayyid Asa’ad leads Omani delegation at GCC-EU Summit

Oman’s Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations, HH Sayyid Asa’ad bin Tarik Al Said, led the Sultanate of Oman’s delegation in the first GCC-EU Joint Summit in Brussels on behalf of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. In his opening speech, HH Sayyid Asa’ad highlighted the importance of the summit in expanding strategic partnerships and cooperation between GCC and EU countries, particularly in economic, trade, and diplomatic spheres. The summit aimed to strengthen political and diplomatic cooperation to promote security, stability, and peace in the region.

The summit was co-chaired by Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of Qatar, and Charles Michel, President of the European Council. Leaders from GCC and EU countries discussed various international challenges, such as the conflict in Gaza and the war in Ukraine, as well as ways to enhance economic cooperation, trade, and investment. The summit also focused on increasing collaboration in renewable energy, sustainability, climate, and facilitating travel for citizens between the two regions.

During the summit, HH Sayyid Asa’ad expressed Oman’s support for the international coalition to implement the Two-State Solution for the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. Oman also welcomed President Emmanuel Macron’s call to stop arms exports to Israel to protect innocent civilians and establish peace in the region. The Sultanate stressed the international community’s responsibility to uphold international law, impose ceasefire measures, and ensure justice, security, and stability for all.

The summit highlighted the shared vision of GCC and EU countries to strengthen cooperation in various areas, emphasizing the importance of dialogue, collaboration, and mutual respect among nations. Leaders discussed the need to address common challenges collectively, including promoting peaceful coexistence, enhancing cultural and technological exchanges, and fostering economic growth. The summit aimed to build bridges between communities, enhance diplomatic ties, and contribute to global peace and stability.

The GCC-EU Joint Summit in Brussels was a significant step towards deepening the partnership between countries in the Gulf region and Europe, with a focus on advancing cooperation in key areas such as trade, investment, energy, sustainability, and climate. Leaders recognized the importance of working together to address geopolitical challenges and promote mutual understanding and cooperation.
