Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, Bandar Al-Khorayef, recently visited Vale’s Carajas mines in the Brazilian Amazon forests to learn about the modern technologies used in mineral extraction and processing. During the visit, Al-Khorayef discussed the transfer of knowledge and expertise in mining, particularly focusing on the preservation of rainforests while conducting mining activities. Vale is known for its experience in balancing iron ore exploitation with nature conservation, preserving the Amazon forests and fostering partnerships with surrounding communities.

Vale, one of the largest iron ore production complexes globally, has been successful in preserving nature reserves and ecosystems while conducting mining activities. The company utilizes remote mine management technology and driverless trucks for transporting mining materials. Al-Khorayef’s visit also included discussions on Vale’s expansion plans in Saudi Arabia and opportunities for cooperation in developing the Carajas mines, which currently produce over 300 million tons of iron ore annually.

Al-Khorayef’s tour of Brazil and Chile aims to strengthen bilateral relations and attract investments to Saudi Arabia’s industrial and mining sectors. Both countries have significant economic and investment relations, particularly in sectors such as food and mining industries. Saudi Arabia currently supplies Brazil with 16% of its phosphate fertilizer needs through the production of Maaden Company. Vale has also established ties with the Saudi mining sector, with Manara Minerals investing in a 10% stake in the company.

In addition to the joint ventures and investments between Vale and Saudi Arabian companies, Vale is developing a factory and logistics center for processing and producing iron pellets in Ras Al Khair Industrial City. With an investment exceeding SR4 billion, the facility is expected to have a production capacity of up to 4 million tons annually of iron pellets, which are crucial in steel production. This initiative is part of Vale’s efforts to expand its operations and establish a stronger presence in Saudi Arabia’s mining sector.

The discussions during the visit focused on technological advancements in mining, knowledge transfer, and environmental conservation practices. Vale’s commitment to preserving nature reserves and ecosystems while maintaining a high level of production has been well-recognized. The visit also highlighted opportunities for cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Brazil in various sectors, including mining, with the aim of fostering economic growth and investment in both countries.

Overall, Al-Khorayef’s visit to Vale’s Carajas mines in Brazil showcased the importance of sustainability and cooperation in the mining industry. The discussions centered around technological innovations, knowledge exchange, and environmental conservation, highlighting the potential for further collaboration between Saudi Arabia and Brazil in developing their industrial and mining sectors. This visit is expected to strengthen bilateral relations and attract investments to both countries, paving the way for future partnerships and economic growth in the industry.
