Saudi Arabia renames Ministry to emphasize focus on municipalities and housing

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz issued a royal decree renaming the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing to the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing. Minister Majid Al-Hogail expressed gratitude to the King and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, stating that the new name reflects a commitment to developing a modern urban environment in line with Vision objectives. The goal is to achieve sustainable urban development plans and improve the quality of life in cities while advancing the housing sector.

The renaming of the ministry highlights the significance of the municipalities and housing sectors, as they directly impact citizens’ lives. The ministry aims to provide innovative services to beneficiaries by elevating the quality of municipal and housing services and adhering to international best practices. The Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs was established in 1975 to oversee urban planning and the development of municipal and rural areas, managing municipal services for environmental cleanliness and health.

In 2021, a royal decree merged the Ministry of Housing with the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs, forming the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing.
