Borussia Dortmund faces a tough test as they prepare to take on Real Madrid in the Champions League final at Wembley. Madrid, with their rich history in the competition, are strong favorites against a Dortmund side that has defied the odds to reach the final. Madrid’s impressive run to the final, including wins over defending champions Manchester City and Bayern Munich, has instilled confidence in their ability to lift the trophy once again.

Madrid, under the guidance of Carlo Ancelotti, have been in fine form this season, losing just twice in 54 games across all competitions. Their dominance in La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup victory over Barcelona further highlight their credentials as European champions. With a squad packed with talent, including former Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham, Madrid are eager to secure another Champions League title.

Bellingham’s journey from Birmingham to Dortmund and now to Madrid showcases the quality of players that Dortmund are up against. Despite their struggles domestically, Dortmund have excelled in the Champions League this season, culminating in their third final appearance in the club’s history. Edin Terzic’s men have shown resilience and determination to reach this stage, overcoming tough opponents along the way.

Dortmund’s path to the final has been no easy feat, with impressive victories over the likes of PSG and Atletico Madrid. However, they are aware that they will need to raise their game even further to beat a formidable Madrid side. As Terzic acknowledges, their goal is not just to reach the final but to win the Champions League, a feat that will require overcoming the ultimate boss in European football.

Madrid’s rich history in the Champions League means there are personal milestones at stake for players and coach alike. Ancelotti has the opportunity to extend his record as the only coach to win the European Cup four times, while players such as Carvajal, Modric, and Kroos could match the legendary Paco Gento in terms of European title wins. UEFA will be hoping for a focus on the footballing action on the field to ensure a smooth and successful final at Wembley.

With memories of past crowd troubles at major finals, including the chaos at the Euro 2020 final and the organizational issues at the 2022 Champions League final in Paris, the English FA has taken steps to enhance safety and infrastructure at Wembley. With an eye on hosting the Euro 2028 final, the FA is committed to ensuring that the focus remains on the game and the players. Lessons have been learned from past incidents, and additional measures have been put in place to prevent any potential disruptions during the Champions League final.
