The Qatar Social and Cultural Center for the Blind (QSCCB), organized a lecture on new horizons in supporting visual impairment and the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The lecture, delivered by media writer and researcher Dr. Marfut Ibrahim, focused on various AI technologies and programs developed by technology firms such as Ava and Be My Eyes. These programs are dedicated to helping people with visual impairments navigate their daily lives more easily.

Faisal Muhammad Al Kooheji, Chairperson of the QSCCB, stated that the lecture was just the beginning of the center’s summer program activities, which include organizing events, lectures, and workshops. One of the workshops featured a course in ceramic art in collaboration with the Visual Arts Center, aimed at providing visually impaired individuals with access to artistic opportunities. Additionally, the center offers the “ears of craftsmanship” program, which introduces visually impaired individuals to different arts through audio description services.

The QSCCB is dedicated to providing support and opportunities for visually impaired individuals, and the use of AI technologies is a key component of their efforts. By utilizing programs such as Ava and Be My Eyes, the center aims to empower individuals with visual impairments and enhance their quality of life. The summer program activities, including workshops and lectures, are designed to further this mission and offer a range of artistic and educational opportunities for participants.

The collaboration with the Visual Arts Center and the introduction of the “ears of craftsmanship” program are examples of the QSCCB’s commitment to expanding access to the arts for visually impaired individuals. By leveraging technology and innovative approaches, the center is able to provide unique and engaging experiences for participants. The use of AI in supporting visual impairment opens up new possibilities for individuals to connect with the world around them and pursue their interests in various fields.

Overall, the lecture on new horizons in supporting visual impairment and the role of AI provided valuable insights into the ways in which technology can enhance the lives of visually impaired individuals. The QSCCB’s summer program activities demonstrate the center’s commitment to providing opportunities for artistic and educational growth for participants. Through partnerships, workshops, and innovative programs, the center is helping to create a more inclusive and supportive community for individuals with visual impairments. The use of AI technologies represents a significant step forward in supporting visual impairment and empowering individuals to lead fulfilling and enriched lives.
