The State of Qatar has strongly condemned Israeli threats to storm the city of Rafah, expressing its rejection of any military operation in the city and warning of a potential humanitarian catastrophe. This statement was delivered by Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in a meeting at the UN Headquarters in New York. Qatar expressed deep regret over the Security Council’s failure to adopt a draft resolution for Palestine’s full UN membership, considering it a setback for peace efforts in the region. Qatar firmly believes in the legitimacy and fairness of Palestine’s request for UN membership and urges the Security Council to approve it.

Qatar emphasized the importance of approving Palestine’s UN membership as a crucial step towards a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian cause. The country called on the international community and the Security Council to do justice to the Palestinian people by accepting their state within the international community. Qatar highlighted the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza due to Israeli aggression, with thousands of victims and widespread destruction. The country urged the Security Council to take immediate action to stop the aggression and provide humanitarian aid to those in need.

Qatar welcomed the report of the Independent Review Committee on the UNRWA and called on donor countries to continue supporting the agency to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Qatar is actively involved in mediation efforts, along with Egypt and the US, to reach a ceasefire in Gaza, release prisoners, and ensure the arrival of humanitarian aid. Qatar reaffirmed its long-standing support for the Palestinian people’s just cause and their right to establish an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.

Overall, Qatar’s statements at the United Nations underscore the country’s commitment to supporting the Palestinian cause, advocating for peace in the region, and addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. By condemning Israeli threats and aggression, and calling for Palestinian rights to be recognized within the international community, Qatar is actively working towards a just and comprehensive solution to the ongoing conflict. As a mediator in ceasefire efforts and a supporter of UNRWA, Qatar is playing a crucial role in addressing the urgent needs of those affected by the ongoing crisis in Gaza. The country’s calls for justice, fairness, and protection of civilians reflect its commitment to upholding international law and humanitarian principles in the face of conflict and crisis.
