The State of Qatar is actively participating in the 54th ordinary session of the Permanent Arab Committee for Human Rights taking place in Cairo. Led by HE Ambassador Dr. Turki bin Abdulla Al Mahmoud, a delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs represents Qatar at the three-day event happening at the Secretariat-General of the Arab League. HE Dr. Turki bin Abdulla Al Mahmoud emphasized the importance of the session’s agenda, particularly focusing on the Israeli violations against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip. He commended the efforts of the Arab League Secretariat-General and the Permanent Arab Committee for Human Rights for organizing this crucial meeting.

Qatar’s condemnation of the Israeli violations and racist practices in the occupied Arab territories, especially attacks against civilians, was reiterated by HE Dr. Turki bin Abdulla Al Mahmoud. The need to uphold international humanitarian law and protect civilians from the serious violations they face in the occupied Palestinian territories was emphasized. The session will address the severe assaults by the Israeli occupation forces in the occupied Palestinian territories, including the ongoing onslaught on the Gaza Strip and the retention of martyrs’ bodies by Israel, the occupying power. It will also review the outcomes of the recent Arab Summit in Manama, focusing on ensuring the right to health and education during armed conflicts.

One of the key topics to be discussed during the 54th ordinary session of the Permanent Arab Committee for Human Rights is the intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Human Rights. The focus will be on AI ethics and addressing the challenges posed by this technology to ensure the optimal enjoyment of human rights. Additionally, the logo for the 2025 Arab Human Rights Day will be approved during the session, with the day to be observed annually on March 16. The recommendations arising from the session will be presented to the Arab League Council at the ministerial level during the next regular session (162) in September for consideration and adoption.

The State of Qatar’s active participation in the Permanent Arab Committee for Human Rights reflects its commitment to promoting and protecting human rights in the Arab region. By condemning Israeli violations and advocating for adherence to international humanitarian law, Qatar is taking a stand for justice and the rights of civilians in the occupied Palestinian territories. The focus on AI and Human Rights at the session highlights the importance of addressing emerging technologies and their impact on human rights, ensuring that advancements in AI do not infringe upon fundamental rights. The approval of the 2025 Arab Human Rights Day logo underscores the ongoing efforts to raise awareness and commemorate human rights achievements in the region. The recommendations to be presented to the Arab League Council demonstrate the collaborative approach taken by Arab countries to address human rights challenges and promote a more inclusive and rights-based society.
