The new institute, a part of Qatar Foundation, will oversee the country’s precision health agenda, including the Qatar Biobank and Qatar Genome Programme. The session, titled “International Programs; Knowledge Exchange,” featured experts from various countries discussing the significance of interdisciplinary partnerships in promoting knowledge sharing and cross-border cooperation.
Dr. Hamdi Mbarek, Research and Partnerships Director at QPHI, stressed the need for successful collaborations, common goals, and engagement in networks to foster global partnerships. He emphasized the importance of increasing diversity in genomics research and highlighted the evolution of science and research over the years. Dr. Peter Goodhand, CEO of the Global Alliance for Genomics and Health (GA4GH) in Canada, discussed the importance of adaptable and collaborative frameworks that accommodate technological differences in research capabilities among countries.
Dr. Radja Badji, Manager of Translational Genomics at QPHI, moderated the session and emphasized the role of technology in overcoming challenges in global healthcare research. The experts also discussed the importance of robust governance structures in promoting open science and transparent data-sharing policies. Dr. Patrick Tan, Executive Director of Precision Health Research in Singapore, highlighted the need to recognize the differences in research capacities among countries and the value they can bring to scientific findings.
