Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar (WCM-Q) recently held a symposium focused on professionalism in medical education. The event aimed to explore effective approaches for diverse learners in understanding professionalism and forming an identity as a professional within the medical field. Participants gained insights into the variations of professionalism interpretations across different healthcare settings, discussed assessments, coaching strategies, and created personalized remediation plans.

A major highlight of the symposium was the emphasis on coaching techniques specifically designed to address professionalism challenges within multicultural environments. The event featured a mix of live and virtual sessions led by renowned medical educators and experts, along with interactive workshops to facilitate discussions and hands-on learning experiences. The workshop, hosted at WCM-Q and organized by the Division of Continuing Professional Development, attracted a diverse audience including healthcare providers, researchers, educators, and students.

The symposium was directed and presented by WCM-Q faculty members, including Dr. Amal Khidir, Dr. Fatimah Isa, Dr. Moune Jabre, and Dr. Mange Manyama, who shared their expertise on pediatrics, psychology, obstetrics, gynecology, and anatomy in radiology. Guest speakers included Dr. Adina Kalet, Dr. Goran Stevanovski, Dr. Marianne Mak-van der Vossen, and Dr. Majda Sebah, who brought additional perspectives from their work in medical education and general practice.

The symposium received accreditation from both local authorities, the Ministry of Public Health’s Department of Healthcare Professions – Accreditation Section, and internationally by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME). This recognition highlights the value and quality of the content presented at the event, ensuring that participants received up-to-date information and training that meets professional standards.

Overall, the symposium on fostering professionalism in medical education at WCM-Q was a successful event that brought together a diverse audience to discuss and learn about effective approaches for promoting professionalism in healthcare settings. By focusing on coaching techniques, assessments, and personalized remediation plans, participants gained valuable insights and skills to navigate the complexities of professionalism within multicultural contexts. The symposium’s accreditation further solidifies its significance in the medical education community and underscores the commitment of WCM-Q to providing high-quality continuing professional development opportunities for healthcare professionals.
