The House of Representatives will be addressing the decline in fish stocks and subsequent rise in fish prices during their weekly session. Ten MPs, led by MP Muneer Suroor, have requested this debate to seek clarification and action from the government. Other MPs joining in the request are Dr. Hisham Al Asheri, Najeeb Al Kawari, Jaleela Al Sayed, Mohammed Al Aliwi, Mohsen Al Asboul, Jalal Kazim, Bader Al Tamimi, Khalid Buanq, and Hanan Al Fardan. They have identified various factors contributing to the problem such as the shortage of fish, inflated prices, dominance of frozen and imported fish, involvement of foreign workers in the fishing and sales process, and unauthorized export of fish and marine resources.

The MPs are concerned about the impact foreign workers may have on the quantity of fish available in local markets. They also highlight the unauthorized export of fish and other marine resources occurring without official permits and outside the knowledge of border control authorities. Additionally, the disappearance of certain fish species from local markets despite the presence of numerous fishermen is another key issue raised in their request for the debate. These factors combined have led to a sharp rise in fish prices, making it difficult for the local population to access this essential food source.

The involvement of foreign workers in the fishing and sales process may be contributing to the shortage of fish available in local markets. The MPs are calling for action to address this issue and ensure that local fishermen are given fair opportunities to catch and sell fish. They also highlight the need for better monitoring of the export of fish and marine resources to prevent unauthorized activities that are impacting the availability of fish in local markets. By addressing these issues, the government can work towards stabilizing fish stocks and prices in order to ensure food security for the population.

The MPs are seeking clarification from the government on the various issues contributing to the decline in fish stocks and rise in fish prices. By holding this debate, they hope to raise awareness about the importance of preserving fish stocks and ensuring that local fishermen are supported in their efforts to provide this essential food source to the population. They are calling for stronger regulations and enforcement measures to prevent unauthorized activities that are impacting the availability of fish in local markets. Through collaborative efforts between the government, MPs, and local fishermen, solutions can be developed to address these pressing issues and ensure food security for all.
