The Ministry of Interior in Saudi Arabia recently conducted a week-long inspection campaign across the country to crack down on residency, work, and border security violations. The campaign, which took place from May 9 to 15, 2024, resulted in the identification of 16,023 violations. These included 9,947 cases of residency violations, 3,929 border security breaches, and 2,147 labor law infringements.

During the campaign, authorities caught 1,047 individuals attempting to illegally cross into the Kingdom, with the majority being Yemeni and Ethiopian nationals. Additionally, 34 people were apprehended while trying to leave the country illegally. In response to these violations, 17 individuals involved in the transportation, sheltering, or employment of these violators were arrested.

As a consequence of these enforcement efforts, 44,056 expatriates are currently undergoing procedures related to the enforcement of regulations. Of those detained for violations, 36,497 individuals have been directed to contact their embassies or consulates to obtain the necessary documentation for travel, 1,687 are arranging their departure, and 15,566 have already been repatriated.

The Ministry of Interior issued a stern warning against facilitating the illegal entry of individuals into the Kingdom or aiding them in any way, emphasizing that such actions are considered serious crimes. Offenders may face penalties of up to 15 years in prison, a fine of up to SR1 million, and potential impoundment of vehicles or properties used in the commission of these crimes.

To combat these violations effectively, the ministry urges the public to report any suspicious activities by calling 911 in the Makkah, Riyadh, and Eastern regions, and 999 and 996 in other parts of the Kingdom. This proactive approach aims to enhance the security and stability of the country by deterring and cracking down on illegal residency, work, and border security violations.

Overall, the Ministry of Interior’s recent inspection campaign demonstrates the government’s commitment to upholding and enforcing regulations related to residency, work, and border security. By identifying and addressing violations, the authorities seek to maintain the safety and integrity of the Kingdom while sending a clear message that illegal activities will not be tolerated. Public cooperation in reporting violations is essential in this effort to ensure the security and well-being of all residents and visitors in Saudi Arabia.
