The Sultanate of Oman has seen a 4% increase in its total domestic production and import of natural gas, reaching 42.222 billion cubic metres by the end of September 2024, compared to 40.589 billion cubic metres in the same period last year. Industrial projects were the largest consumers of natural gas in Oman, accounting for 61.4% of usage with consumption reaching 25.923 billion cubic metres. Other sectors that utilized natural gas included oil fields, power generation stations, and industrial zones.

Non-associated natural gas production, including imports, totaled 33.626 billion cubic metres, while associated gas production amounted to 8.596 billion cubic metres as of September 2024. These figures highlight the importance of natural gas in various sectors of Oman’s economy, including industry, oil production, and power generation. The increase in natural gas production and consumption indicates a growing demand for the resource in the country.

The data released by the National Center for Statistics and Information also revealed that power generation stations consumed 7.231 billion cubic metres of natural gas, while industrial zones used 187.8 million cubic metres. This further emphasizes the diverse range of sectors that rely on natural gas for their operations in Oman. The country’s strategic location and abundance of natural gas reserves make it a key player in the global energy market.

Oman’s natural gas production and consumption figures highlight the country’s efforts to diversify its economy and reduce its dependence on oil. Natural gas is a cleaner and more efficient energy source compared to traditional fossil fuels, making it an attractive option for industry and power generation. The government’s focus on expanding natural gas production and utilization is in line with its long-term vision for sustainable development.

The increase in natural gas production and consumption in Oman is also a positive sign for the country’s economic growth and energy security. By investing in infrastructure and technology to extract and utilize natural gas resources, Oman can ensure a stable supply of energy for its industries and households. The government’s efforts to promote natural gas usage in various sectors will further drive economic growth and create new opportunities for investment and job creation.

Overall, the latest data on Oman’s natural gas production and consumption highlights the country’s potential as a major player in the global energy market. With increasing demand for clean and efficient energy sources, Oman’s natural gas reserves present a valuable opportunity for economic growth and sustainable development. By continuing to invest in the sector and expand its utilization across various industries, Oman can further solidify its position as a key player in the energy market.
