A delegation from Oman recently visited the UNICEF Global Supply and Logistics Hub in Copenhagen to strengthen humanitarian cooperation. The delegation included representatives from the Foreign Ministry, Ministry of Education, and various charitable organizations. The visit provided an overview of UNICEF’s procurement and delivery operations in challenging environments, aligned with Oman’s recent contribution to UNICEF’s Gaza appeal. The delegation witnessed firsthand the crucial role of UNICEF’s Supply Division in delivering life-saving supplies to children worldwide.
In 2023, UNICEF’s Supply Division facilitated the procurement of $5.2 billion in essential goods and services, benefiting children in 162 countries. The delegation learned about the extensive operations of UNICEF, which delivered over $270 million worth of life-saving supplies to children and families in Gaza and Sudan. HH Dr. Sayyida Muna Al Said, Chairperson of the Children First Association, praised UNICEF’s innovative facilities and approaches, especially those catering to children with disabilities, in line with Oman’s Vision 2040.
During the three-day visit, the delegation toured UNICEF’s state-of-the-art facilities, including the fully automated High Bay storage area capable of holding up to 36,000 pallets of supplies. The facility operates with robots for efficient handling and rapid response capabilities during crises. The delegation also visited UNICEF’s Innovation Hub, showcasing cutting-edge research and assistive technologies for children with disabilities. Director of UNICEF Supply Division, Leila Pakkala, emphasized that children are at the heart of UNICEF’s supply work, highlighting the strong cooperation between the Government of Oman and UNICEF for children in urgent need.
