The Sultanate of Oman’s participation in the 33rd Arab Summit in Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain, on May 16, 2024, highlights Oman’s commitment to its foreign policy principles and its unwavering support for joint Arab action to achieve common interests and address shared concerns. Oman has consistently supported the League of Arab States in its efforts to promote economic integration and enhance the security and stability of Arab nations amidst regional conflicts and crises. The upcoming summit, the first to be held in Bahrain, is significant in light of the challenging circumstances facing the Arab world, particularly the military escalation by Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip and other Palestinian territories.

The ongoing injustices suffered by the Palestinian people underscore the need for Arab unity and solidarity in championing their cause. Constructive decisions and actions are essential to promoting peace, security, and stability in the region, and advancing joint Arab efforts towards a brighter future. The Bahrain Summit will focus on enhancing cooperation, fostering prosperity, and addressing a wide range of issues including the implementation of previous summit decisions, the Palestinian crisis, Arab national security concerns, as well as foreign interventions in Arab affairs.

Abdullah bin Nasser Al Rahbi, Oman’s Ambassador to Egypt and its permanent representative to the League of Arab States, emphasizes Oman’s active engagement in Arab solidarity initiatives and its contribution to constructive dialogue among Arab nations. Al Rahbi underscores the critical importance of the Palestinian issue in the current summit, which serves as a platform for showcasing greater Arab solidarity in the face of regional challenges and global political developments. Faisal Hareb Al Busaidi, Oman’s Ambassador to Bahrain, regards the hosting of the Arab Summit in Bahrain as a significant political milestone that comes at a crucial juncture marked by regional conflicts, threats, and disputes.

Since its accession to the League of Arab States in 1971, Oman has played a proactive role in supporting Arab solidarity through its participation in various Arab summits and meetings. Oman’s commitment to Arab cooperation and unity remains steadfast, as evidenced by its active involvement in discussions on key regional and international issues aimed at fostering peace, security, and prosperity in the Arab world. The upcoming Arab Summit in Bahrain presents a valuable opportunity for Arab nations to collectively address pressing challenges, reinforce joint efforts, and chart a path towards a more stable and prosperous future for the region.
