The Sultanate of Oman and the Islamic Republic of Mauritania recently held a political talks session to explore ways to enhance mutual cooperation relations. The session, held in Nouakchott, Mauritania, involved discussions between Sayyid Badr Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister of Oman, and Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad. The two ministers focused on boosting business and investment partnerships between private sector companies from both countries, especially in the sectors of fishing, mining, energy, agriculture, logistics, and tourism. They also exchanged views on regional and international issues of common concern, emphasizing the importance of supporting efforts to promote security, stability, and peace in the region and globally.

The officials expressed their solidarity with ongoing efforts to halt the Israeli aggressive war on the Gaza Strip in Palestine. They called for reaching an agreement that guarantees a ceasefire, facilitates humanitarian relief aid delivery, releases all hostages, and allows displaced Palestinians to return to their homes. Emphasizing the significance of international law and humanitarian principles, the ministers advocated for convening an international peace conference to implement the two-state solution and end the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories.

The discussions between Oman and Mauritania also included plans for enhancing the connectivity between the two countries’ ports through logistical cooperation. This initiative aims to strengthen trade ties and foster economic growth in the region. By exploring opportunities for collaboration in various sectors, such as fishing, mining, and agriculture, both nations seek to leverage their respective resources and expertise for mutual benefit. Additionally, the ministers highlighted the importance of cooperation in the energy sector to enhance energy security and promote sustainable development.

In the context of advancing regional stability, the two officials underlined the significance of international cooperation in addressing common challenges and promoting peace and security. By reaffirming their commitment to supporting international efforts aimed at conflict resolution and peacebuilding, Oman and Mauritania demonstrated their shared vision for a peaceful and prosperous future for the region. Through dialogue and collaboration, the two countries aim to foster greater understanding and cooperation on shared priorities and contribute to broader efforts to enhance regional and global security.

As part of their commitment to upholding international norms and principles, the ministers emphasized the importance of adhering to international law and respecting human rights. By calling for the protection of civilians and adherence to humanitarian standards, Oman and Mauritania underscored their commitment to promoting peace, security, and stability in the region. Through dialogue and engagement, the two nations seek to work together to address common challenges and contribute to global efforts to build a more peaceful and prosperous future for all.
