The Sultanate of Oman and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan have a long history of strong bilateral relations, based on common historical and cultural strategic aspects. The upcoming state visit of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to Jordan and his meeting with King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein of Jordan will aim to enhance cooperation between the two countries in various areas, such as economy, tourism, trade, and investment. Regional and international issues of common interest will also be discussed during the visit, including the Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip and the Palestinian cause.

The Ambassador of Oman to Jordan, Fahd bin Abdulrahman Al Ojaili, highlighted the importance of His Majesty’s visit in strengthening the fraternal relations between the two countries. He emphasized the consensus between Oman and Jordan on crucial regional matters and the belief that peace and development are essential for achieving security and stability in the region. The visit aims to boost commercial, investment, and industrial cooperation between the two countries, as well as promote collaboration between the private sectors.

On the other hand, the Ambassador of Jordan to Oman, Amjad Al Quhaiwi, emphasized the historical relations between the two countries and the continuous cooperation in various fields. He mentioned the increase in trade exchange between Oman and Jordan during 2023, indicating growth opportunities in sectors like information technology, food, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, mining, and communications. The two countries have signed memorandums of understanding to enhance economic and trade relations, support foreign trade, and encourage investment partnerships.

The economic, trade, and investment relations between Oman and Jordan have seen significant progress over the past period, as confirmed by Faisal bin Abdullah Al Rowas, the Chairman of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI). Both countries are seeking to attract investments and expand economic diversification to achieve sustainable growth. The Jordan Chamber of Commerce also underscored the importance of the private sector in pushing economic relations towards wider horizons, with plans for a Jordanian business delegation to visit Oman for discussions on joint projects.

In terms of tourism, the number of Omani tourists visiting Jordan has been increasing, with cultural cooperation between the two countries extending to various areas such as Omani studies at Al al-Bayt University, participation in cultural events, and exchanging experiences. Omani students studying in Jordanian universities have also been on the rise, showcasing the growing educational ties between the two nations.

Overall, the visit of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to Jordan is expected to further solidify the strong relations between Oman and Jordan, leading to enhanced cooperation in various sectors and addressing regional and international challenges together. The economic, trade, and investment relations between the two countries are on a positive trajectory, with opportunities for further growth and collaboration in different industries. The cultural and educational exchanges between Oman and Jordan reflect the deep historical ties and mutual respect for each other’s heritage and contributions to society.
