The Chairperson of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC), Maryam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah, praised the speech of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani at the opening of the fourth ordinary session of the Shura Council’s 53rd annual session. She emphasized that the speech covered various aspects that demonstrate Qatar’s vision towards local, regional, and international issues. In particular, she highlighted His Highness’ focus on the Palestinian cause, stressing the importance of achieving peace for the Palestinian people who have long suffered from occupation and devastating wars. The State of Qatar and its leadership are fully aware of the humanitarian crisis facing the Palestinian people and have consistently warned against the dangers they face.

Al Attiyah expressed her concerns about the expanding scope of the war on Gaza, which now includes civilians in Lebanon. She warned that without the intervention of the international community to stop these violations of international law, the region could face a humanitarian catastrophe. She commended HH the Amir’s emphasis on the constitution of Qatar as the legal framework for achieving the aspirations and interests of the Qatari people. Additionally, she praised the leadership’s commitment to promoting equal citizenship rights, which further solidifies Qatar’s stance on human rights. She believes these principles will contribute to more human rights achievements in Qatari society.

The NHRC Chairperson also highlighted the importance of the principle of equality before the law, as emphasized in HH the Amir’s speech. She stated that being treated equally under the law is fundamental to building a modern state and supporting the many achievements Qatar has made in various fields. Al Attiyah expressed her hope that the upcoming steps, based on the vision outlined by HH the Amir in the Shura Council, will further advance human rights in Qatari society. She acknowledged the significant progress that Qatar has already made in this regard and is optimistic about future developments.

In conclusion, Al Attiyah’s statement underscores the importance of HH the Amir’s speech in guiding Qatar’s approach to human rights issues. She applauds the leadership’s commitment to promoting peace, equality, and justice both domestically and on the international stage. As Qatar continues to make strides in upholding human rights principles, Al Attiyah is confident that the country will achieve even greater accomplishments in the years to come. The NHRC Chairperson’s remarks serve as a testament to Qatar’s dedication to advancing human rights and promoting a just and equitable society for all its citizens.
