The upcoming by-election in Muharraq has taken an interesting turn with another candidate, Dr. Essam Al Alawi, entering the race for the vacant seat in the 1st Constituency of Muharraq Governorate. The frenzy over the by-election began after the sitting MP Mohammed Al Hussaini was ousted for violating electoral laws. MP Hamad Farooq Al Doy has also declared his intention to assist the residents of the first constituency until a new MP is elected. This has sparked interest in the upcoming election, which is expected to be a closely contested race.
Dr. Essam Al Alawi announced his candidacy on Instagram, stating that he was responding to the calls from the constituency. In the previous election, he secured second place with 37% of the total votes in the second round. Other candidates who have declared their candidacy include Abdulaziz Al Mannai, Khalid Sulaibeekh, Khawla Busmait, and Salih Al Sada. Former MP Hamad Al Kooheji and the nephew of the current Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abdulwahed Qarata, are also expected to enter the race, bringing the total number of confirmed candidates to 7.
In the previous election, Mohammed Al Hussaini won the first round with 2,505 votes, followed by Dr. Essam Al Alawi with 1,645 votes. In the second round, Al Hussaini secured 63% of the vote against Al Alawi’s 37%. The ousting of Al Hussaini for failing to declare dual citizenship has led to a vacancy in the 1st Constituency of Muharraq, prompting a flurry of activity among potential candidates.
The by-election in Muharraq has generated significant interest, with multiple candidates declaring their intent to run for the vacant seat. Dr. Essam Al Alawi’s entry into the race, following the ousting of Mohammed Al Hussaini, has added to the excitement surrounding the upcoming election. With other prominent candidates also considering entering the race, the competition is expected to be fierce as contenders vie for the opportunity to represent the constituents of the 1st Constituency of Muharraq Governorate.
The political landscape in Muharraq is set to undergo a transformation as candidates gear up for the upcoming by-election. With the recent developments following the ousting of Mohammed Al Hussaini, the constituents of the 1st Constituency are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to elect their new representative. The diverse field of candidates, including former MPs and municipal council members, promises an engaging race that will capture the attention of residents and political observers alike. As the nomination process officially opens, the stage is set for a dynamic and closely contested by-election in Muharraq Governorate.
