The National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA) in Qatar recently hosted an awards ceremony to honor organizations that participated in the National Cyber Drill 2023, with the theme “Secure Your Data.” The event was attended by H E Jassim bin Saif Ahmed Al Sulaiti, Minister of Transport, and H E Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, among others. NCSA President Eng. Abdul Rahman Ali Muhammad Al Farahid Al Maliki recognized around 30 government and critical entities for their excellence in the gold, silver, and bronze categories during the drill held in November.

In addition to the award recipients, all other participating entities were acknowledged for their efforts. The goal of the event was to encourage and support government and critical sector entities in enhancing their readiness and improving their approach to handling cyber incidents. This is part of the NCSA’s efforts to elevate preparedness in addressing cyber risks, focusing on the pillars of cybersecurity: people, process, and technology. The ceremony highlighted the importance of continuously supporting and enhancing the capabilities of government entities and critical sectors to ensure they are well-prepared.

The National Cyber Drill, which began as a pioneering initiative in 2013, saw approximately 144 government and non-government entities participate in its tenth edition. Director of National Cyber Enablement and Excellence Affairs at NCSA, Khalid Al Hashimi, emphasized the agency’s commitment to helping entities reach the highest levels of readiness. During the event, key statistics and results of the drill were shared, revealing that 126 entities successfully completed the cyber drill exercise, while 18 entities were unable to pass.

One of the primary benefits of the National Cyber Drill is the opportunity it provides to identify and understand the administrative and technical weaknesses within participating entities. This valuable insight enables the NCSA to propose future initiatives that enhance the preparedness of these entities, ultimately strengthening their cybersecurity posture. By participating in such exercises, organizations can proactively address vulnerabilities, improve incident response capabilities, and mitigate potential cyber threats effectively.

The National Cyber Security Agency in Qatar plays a crucial role in promoting cybersecurity awareness and readiness among government and critical sector entities. Through events like the National Cyber Drill and awards ceremonies, the agency not only recognizes excellence but also fosters a culture of continuous improvement in cybersecurity practices. The support and guidance provided by NCSA help organizations stay ahead of evolving cyber threats and ensure they are well-prepared to safeguard their data and systems against potential breaches.

Overall, the recent awards ceremony hosted by the National Cyber Security Agency in Qatar was a testament to the commitment of the agency and participating entities towards enhancing cybersecurity readiness. By recognizing excellence, sharing key learnings, and encouraging ongoing improvement, the event underscored the importance of collaboration and vigilance in addressing cyber risks. As cyber threats continue to evolve, initiatives like the National Cyber Drill are essential in strengthening the resilience of organizations and safeguarding critical infrastructure in the digital age.
