The Ministry of Interior in Saudi Arabia recently conducted inspection campaigns across the Kingdom to enforce residency, labor, and border security regulations between July 11 and July 17, 2024. A total of 19,817 violations were recorded during this time, with the majority being related to residency status. Additionally, 1,389 individuals were caught attempting to cross the border illegally, with a majority being Yemenis and Ethiopians. Nine individuals involved in facilitating these illegal activities were arrested, and a total of 17,067 expatriates are currently undergoing enforcement procedures.
Of the expatriates detained, 7,139 individuals were found to be in violation of laws and were instructed to contact their respective countries’ embassies for proper travel documentation. Another 4,242 individuals were told to make booking arrangements for their departure, while 14,471 individuals were deported. The Ministry warned that anyone found to be facilitating illegal entry, transportation, shelter, or employment of violators could face severe penalties, including up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to SR1 million. Vehicles used for transport or houses used for shelter may also be impounded.
The Ministry emphasized that these activities are considered major crimes and warrant arrest. It urged the public to report any violations by calling the emergency numbers 911 in the Makkah, Riyadh, and Eastern regions, and 999 or 996 in the rest of the Kingdom. This crackdown on illegal activities is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to maintain the security and integrity of the Kingdom’s borders, as well as regulate residency and labor laws to ensure compliance among expatriates living and working in Saudi Arabia.
