His Excellency Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan, Minister of Labour and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA), has reiterated Bahrain’s commitment to enhancing human rights, ensuring a stable work environment, and combating human trafficking. These efforts are aligned with the overarching developmental vision set by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the government under His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

In light of the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons on July 30th, Humaidan emphasized Bahrain’s exceptional standing in the US State Department’s Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report for the seventh consecutive year. This achievement demonstrates the effectiveness of the Kingdom’s strategies in addressing human trafficking, which are rooted in advanced local legislation and global best practices.

The Minister of Labour highlighted that Bahrain’s approach to combating human trafficking is considered a model for other nations. The Kingdom has implemented various initiatives such as the Wages Protection System, optional insurance for domestic workers, flexible work permits, a tripartite contract for domestic workers, and measures against forced labour. Additionally, Bahrain has established a shelter that offers comprehensive services to individuals at risk of abuse or exploitation, including security, medical and mental health services, legal consultations, and information on their rights.

Humaidan reiterated Bahrain’s dedication to adhering to international conventions and protocols to strengthen systems for preventing human trafficking. The Kingdom continuously reviews and updates national laws and measures to ensure the protection of workers and maintain its leading position in this crucial area. By upholding global standards and implementing innovative strategies, Bahrain is setting a precedent for other countries to follow in the fight against human trafficking.

The Minister’s statement underscores Bahrain’s multifaceted approach to combatting human trafficking, which encompasses not only legal and regulatory measures but also social and humanitarian support for victims. By providing comprehensive services and support through the shelter and other programmes, Bahrain aims to empower and protect those vulnerable to exploitation. The specialized Public Prosecution and dedicated court further expedite trafficking cases, ensuring swift justice for victims and holding perpetrators accountable.

In conclusion, Bahrain’s unwavering commitment to combating human trafficking reflects its dedication to upholding human rights and fostering a safe and secure work environment for all. Through proactive measures, innovative initiatives, and collaboration with international partners, the Kingdom continues to set an example for other nations in the global fight against this heinous crime. As Bahrain strives to further strengthen its systems and enhance support for victims, it stands as a beacon of hope and progress in the quest to eradicate human trafficking.
