Qatar is on the verge of making history by qualifying for the World Cup for the first time ever after their fantastic performance in the Asian Cup 2027 and FIFA World Cup 2026 joint qualifiers. The team, coached by Marquez Lopez, topped Group A with five wins and a draw, securing their place in the next Asian Cup. With a 2-1 comeback victory over India in their final second-round match, Qatar ended the stage unbeaten, much to the delight of Lopez who praised his players for their efforts.

Lopez experimented with young players in the last two qualifiers, resting senior players like Akram Afif and Almoez Ali. Despite being questioned about his team selection, the Spanish coach remained focused on the task at hand. The teams advancing to the third round of Asia’s qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup 2026 were finalized, with 18 nations competing for the eight available spots. These teams will be divided into three groups after a draw scheduled in Kuala Lumpur on June 27.

Kuwait secured their spot in the third round after finishing as runners-up in Group A, defeating Afghanistan 1-0 at home. Although they failed to qualify for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, Kuwait is determined to make their fans proud and prepare for the upcoming challenges. Indonesia, Kyrgyz Republic, and Palestine will also feature in the third round of qualifiers for the first time following their impressive performances in the second round.

The teams entering the third round of the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers include Qatar, Kuwait, Japan, DPR Korea, South Korea, China, Oman, Kyrgyzstan, Iran, Uzbekistan, Iraq, Indonesia, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Australia, and Palestine. These teams will compete for a chance to secure a spot in the prestigious tournament, with one additional berth available through a playoff for an Asian side. As the draw approaches, all eyes are on Qatar as they aim to secure their place in football history by qualifying for the World Cup.
