Lawzi MP faults hazardous housing for fatal fire

Residents living in Ministry of Housing-constructed buildings in Al Luzi are facing potential danger following a deadly fire that claimed four lives in one of the residential buildings over the weekend. MP Hanan Fardan, who represents the area, visited the site of the fire and met with affected residents to address their concerns. She highlighted the need for immediate action to improve housing conditions in Al Luzi, stressing the overcrowding, lack of safety features, and inadequate ventilation in the aging housing units.

MP Fardan called for increased maintenance and development efforts in the area, pointing out that many housing units lack proper electrical systems and emergency exits. She mentioned the visit by the Ministry of Housing and the Ministry of Social Development to the site of the fire, but emphasized the need for concrete steps to ensure the safety and well-being of residents in Al Luzi. The tragic incident serves as a catalyst for comprehensive efforts to maintain and develop all housing units in the area, improving infrastructure, safety elements, and overall living conditions.

In addition to improving housing conditions, MP Fardan called for an investigation into the cause of the fire and accountability for any negligence that may have contributed to the deadly incident. She also addressed the issue of subletting in housing units, which occurs when residents feel that the units are not suitable for their needs. Despite the tragic event, she expressed gratitude to the quick response of the Civil Defense teams who extinguished the blaze and rescued residents, highlighting the importance of emergency response in such situations.

The safety and living conditions in Al Luzi are of utmost importance, and MP Fardan is advocating for urgent action to address the issues raised by the recent fire. She emphasized the need for the Ministry of Housing to prioritize the well-being of residents in the area, ensuring that housing units meet safety standards and provide suitable living conditions for Bahraini families. By taking concrete steps to improve infrastructure, safety features, and overall quality of housing units, the Ministry can prevent future tragedies and enhance the quality of life for residents in Al Luzi.
