Is your child facing bullying at school? In the UAE, parents and schools have resources and guidelines to address this issue. The Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood defines bullying as the deliberate use of force to harm someone over time, leaving the victim unable to defend themselves. This can take various forms, including verbal, physical, suggestive, and social actions. Signs of bullying may include unexplained injuries, fear of school or riding the bus, changes in academic performance, and social withdrawal. It is crucial for parents to be aware of these signs and take appropriate action to support their child.

Parents can help their child by fostering open communication and providing empathy. It is essential to find a balance between being supportive and allowing the child to handle the situation independently. When discussing the issue with the child, it is important to listen attentively without pressuring them for details. Parents should also assess whether involving the school is necessary based on the severity of the bullying and the child’s ability to cope. If school intervention is needed, parents should accurately describe the situation to ensure appropriate action is taken.

In cases of bullying, parents can contact the Child Protection Unit of the Ministry of Education at 80085 to report the issue. By taking proactive steps and addressing bullying early on, parents can help create a safe and supportive environment for their child at school. It is important to remain vigilant for signs of distress or unhappiness in the child, such as changes in behavior, physical symptoms like headaches or stomach pain, and emotional distress. By working together with schools and authorities, parents can ensure that their child receives the necessary support and protection from bullying.
